WHY FOSTERING MATTERS
Foster homes give shelter animals something the shelter environment can’t always provide: a quiet, temporary place to rest, grow, and feel safe.
Fosters are especially important for orphaned kittens who need bottle-feeding and hands-on care, pregnant cats who need a calm place to give birth and raise their kittens, and dogs or cats who are stressed or overwhelmed in the shelter. Many animals who struggle in a kennel environment begin to thrive once they’re in a home.
Fostering also helps animals become more adoptable by giving us a better understanding of their personalities, routines, and needs. Whether you foster for a few weeks or longer, you’re helping prepare an animal for a successful transition into a permanent home.
HMAS needs foster homes for both cats and dogs throughout the year.
