Volunteers are an important part of everything we do at Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter. By giving your time and talents, you help provide homeless cats and dogs with the care, comfort and second chances they deserve.
Whether you want to work directly with animals, help at an event or lend your skills behind the scenes, there are many ways to make a difference at HMAS.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP
Volunteering at HMAS can take many forms. Depending on the shelter’s current needs, volunteer opportunities may include:
- Spending time with socializing cats and dogs
- Walking and dogs
- Helping with cleaning, feeding and general animal care
- Assisting with fundraising and community events
- Providing administrative or organizational support
- Sharing professional or specialized skills
- Supporting other needs as they arise
Volunteer opportunities may vary based on current shelter needs, scheduling and experience.
Your Time Makes a Difference.
Some volunteers work directly with the animals. Others help make adoption events successful, maintain our facilities, take photographs, share professional expertise or support important work behind the scenes.
Every contribution matters.
A walk can give a shelter dog exercise and enrichment. Time spent with a shy cat can help build the confidence needed to connect with an adopter. An extra set of hands at an event can help HMAS reach more people in our community.
However you choose to help, you'll be part of a community of compassionate neighbors giving Central Minnesota animals a second chance.
